The Patience of God

Patience
Read: 2 Peter 3:3 – 13, TLB
Focus:  v. 9, TLB

He isn’t really being slow about his promised return, even though it sometimes seems that way. But he is waiting for the good reason that
he is not willing that any should perish, and he is giving more time for sinners to repent.

I have more patience now that I am older, I think . . . or maybe it is just that I now I prefer the calm over the excitement and activity of life. Seems like no matter what stage we are in, we are looking ahead and hurrying our future. Children want to be grown up. Young people want to be married, or at least someone to belong to. Sick people want to be well. Renters want to be home-owners. Many people look forward to retirement, thinking all will be easier. These days, I really do look forward to Heaven and the peace, love and goodness, that will reign there.. This world is a bit more stressful than it used to be, and even I am wishing I could hurry it along a bit.

Our passage today talks about impatient people who become  mockers, thinking that since Jesus has taken so long to return He will NEVER do it. But as with all good things, the longer He waits, the better the outcome will be. He is waiting that more will have time to repent and that growth may occur in those already ready. He is not willing that any should perish. I have friends and loved ones who are still putting off a decision to fully serve Him, so I do appreciate His waiting, as hard as it may seem. But the time and day WILL surely come, as He has promised. Until He comes, we must be living holy and godly lives, telling others about him, thus helping to hurry the Day along.

Are you one of those that God is waiting on? Or are you on His side already? God is still waiting, as I write this – there is still time to step onto the narrow path – but it may not be long. Accept His “friend request” and reserve your place in His Kingdom!
