A Road Home

Read:  Isaiah 43:16 – 19, TLB
Focus:  v. 19, TLB

“For I’m going to do a brand new thing. See, I have already begun! Don’t you see it? I will make a road through the wilderness of the world for my people to go home, and create rivers for them in the desert!

This scripture passage, verse 19 in particular, has spoken to me many times when I have been hurting and seeking a way out of my sorrow. God reminds His people here of all His previous deliverances and lets them know that now a new day is dawning for them. He has already begun His rescue of them and that it will be even greater than His past blessings. Their exile is about to end and it will be epic (see verse 18)! “I will make a road through the wilderness of the world for my people to go home. . . .”

How many times have you felt like an “exile” in this world we live in? How often have you felt that you don’t really belong here? And maybe you have felt lost in your sin, or in your sorrow, or in your present career or lifestyle – just not fully at home and needing a new chance. All that’s needed is to accept it and go forward in trust with Him. He will refresh and forgive. Isn’t that what we all want?

We can begin again and find a new life in His love. Eventually this scripture will excite our hearts even more as we realize that He is opening up that final new path to our eternal home, with God Himself and His other followers – THAT will be the biggest new thing he has begun – but for now, be excited that He goes before you (and me) and provides springs in our desert, that we may be refreshed.
